    The Treaties of Rome were signed in Rome on 25 March by the six founding Member States and came into force on 1 January the Treaty establishing the European Economic Community, also referred to as the EEC Treaty, established the European Economic Community (EEC);; the Treaty establishing the European Atomic Energy Community, also referred to as the Euratom Treaty, . TREATIES. The EU treaties are binding agreements between EU member countries. They set out EU objectives, rules for EU institutions, how decisions are made and the relationship between the EU and its member countries. The creation of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) was the starting point for over 50 years of European treaty-making.
